CBS Sports: Falcons sign NFL Sensational DB In A Blockbuster Deal As Lorenzo Carter Was Placed On Injured Reserve.
Lorenzo Carter was gone, making the Atlanta Falcons’ pass rush, which leads the league with five sacks, without a starting edge defender.
For the next four weeks at least, one of the Atlanta Falcons’ starting defensive players will be out of the lineup.
Atlanta announced in a press statement on Saturday afternoon that outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter had been placed on injured reserve. With a concussion, Carter, who started the Falcons’ first five games, was originally declared out of Sunday’s contest.
Carter didn’t make it to practice on Wednesday and was first thought to be sick. On Wednesday night, the Falcons changed his status from “illness” to “concussion.” He wasn’t involved on either Thursday or Friday.
Atlanta added cornerback Kevin King to the 53-man roster to take Carter’s spot. King was cut by the Falcons on October 12 then re-signed to the practice squad on October 13. King was a second-round selection of the Green Bay Packers in 2017. Elevated from the practice squad, he appeared in Atlanta’s Oct. 14 38–20 victory over the Carolina Panthers.
Marquice Williams, the coordinator of special teams for the Falcons, praised King’s performance during the third quarter.
Williams praised the football player on Thursday. “He is tall, athletic, and intelligent. Above all, he is a caring person. Having players who were defense starters in the past now play special teams roles—he embraces and loves them and strives to be the best in them.
The athletes are aware of his concern for them. That’s amazing to observe.”
Outside linebacker Demone Harris and cornerback Natrone Brooks were promoted from the practice squad to the active roster by the Falcons. For both players, it’s their first gameday promotion.
The Atlanta Falcons (4-2) take on the Seattle Seahawks (3-3) in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m.
