CBS Sports: The Cowboys are finally making decisions about the fan-favorite star player’s contract.

The Dallas Cowboys were dealt a devastating blow on Sunday in Week 6 as they lost 47-9 to the Detroit Lions. The Cowboys’ offense and defense battled mightily in a game that quickly got out of hand, which resulted in their first loss to the Lions since 2013. The Cowboys, playing at home in AT&T Stadium, struggled to find their rhythm and ended up with their worst loss of the season at the end of regulation. This raised concerns about their “guts.”

The phrase “business decisions” is sometimes used to describe a player’s decision to forego contact in order to minimize any potential discomfort or harm. And even while we respect these guys’ professions far too much to label any of them as “soft,” Even so, Cowboys supporters continue to boo players like Trevon Diggs, a cornerback, when it seems like he isn’t trying hard enough to tackle the Lions on running plays.

Is it accurate to state that Diggs is “soft” or that he does not want to tackle? Perhaps not. That doesn’t stop Cowboys fans from vehemently voicing their opinions on social media, though. One fan added, “Soft, but he sells jerseys,” referencing the Jones family’s notorious prioritization of marketing above sport.

Reason-believing people understand that Diggs is more than a single video clip, and that this mindset affects how the game plays out as a whole. However, Mike Fisher is discussing being “gutted & gutless” here, and that does not seem like a harsh topic at this time. After Jared Goff’s 52-yard touchdown pass to tight end Sam Laporta gave Detroit a 17-3 lead in the second quarter, things started to go south for the team. The Cowboys defense allowed 493 yards overall, including 315 passing yards and three touchdown passes from QB Jared Goff, as they were unable to stop Detroit’s well-rounded offense. The Cowboys offense, which came into the game ranked fourth in passing, struggled all day.
