Is Adams the 49ers’ ideal fit?

This is not surprising at all. According to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, Davante Adams has expressed his desire to leave the Raiders and has mentioned the 49ers as one of the teams he would be ready to play for. Adams allegedly has the Saints, Steelers, Bills, Cowboys, and Ravens as additional teams on his wish list.

Adams is drawn to the 49ers presumably because they are good and play close to East Palo Alto, his birthplace. Thus, Adams, who is getting close to 32 and running out of time to win a Super Bowl, would consider joining the 49ers to be a kind of homecoming.

Is Adams, though, the 49ers’ best fit?

Adams is a prolific wide receiver who expects to be targeted ten times a game and demands the ball. There aren’t many targets available to the 49ers right now. They are having difficulty maintaining all of their weapons in the current state of the passing game. Despite Adams’ excellent play, he would be unnecessary in San Francisco unless the 49ers were to send a wide receiver back to the Raiders in exchange for him.

Furthermore, wide receivers must block for head coach Kyle Shanahan to use them; otherwise, Adams does not lock to block. Thus, it’s not certain if Adams would embrace Shanahan’s culture to the fullest.

Presumably, the 49ers won’t acquire Adams unless the Raiders want Deebo Samuel or Brandon Aiyuk in exchange. Additionally, it’s been said that the Raiders are looking for a second-round pick in return for Adams, and I don’t think the 49ers will accept that.

We’ll have to wait and see.
