CBS Sports: Monday night’s Lions game versus the Seahawks will not feature the team’s favorite player.
Prior to Monday Night Football, the Lions downgrade Brain Branch
Safety Brian Branch of the Detroit Lions was added to the Sunday morning game status report.
The gifted safety is now listed as doubtful for Monday Night Football against the Seattle Seahawks after training on Saturday. There is a sickness listed for him.
The former second-round selection last week underwent evaluation for a suspected brain damage sustained during the Arizona Cardinals game.
Branch struck Cardinals tight end Trey McBride in the helmet. Regretfully, the tackle led to an illegal usage of his helmet penalties of slightly over $10,000.
Ifeatu Melifonwu, a defensive back, was placed on injured reserve this week, which means Brandon Joseph will probably get to play next to Kerby Joseph.
Branch and Joseph have performed well on the back end so far in the season, which has given the coaching staff increased confidence in the secondary.
Teams need to keep adding talented players to the secondary, especially at safety, as more offensive threats exist.
“Given the advantages we currently give the offense, I will tell you this: if I were an offensive coach, I would definitely go in that direction,” Aaron Glenn declared. And we recognize that it’s alright. In light of this, I don’t think facing elite receivers each week will be any different since there are so many of them coming out of college. You draft these players in the second or third round, and they wind up being really excellent players in our league. To be honest with you, it’s just unknown.
Glenn went on, “You could have first-round players who are not as productive, and you could have a third-round player who comes out and blows it out of the water.” “I believe that’s what makes offense interesting, especially when there are three or four receivers available on the field. It’s just impossible to predict which of those men will succeed.
This week will be another challenge for Detroit because two of the best wide receivers in the NFL are Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf.
