CBS Sports: Cowboys Make the Final Trade Decision for Haason Reddick of the Jets

Haason Reddick Holdout Update: New Deal Reached? | The Wright Way Network

Haason Reddick won’t be traded to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for anything if the New York Jets intend to do so.

The statement that Reddick “isn’t a viable option via trade due to cost” was given to ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler.

Dallas is considering its alternatives for rush defense outside the stadium after picking up multiple injuries during the Week 4 loss to the New York Giants.

DeMarcus Lawrence is battling with a midfoot strain, while superstar Micah Parsons has a high ankle sprain. Parsons’s absence is viewed as “week-to-week,” according to Fowler, but Lawrence’s is seen as “more open-ended, but it’s not a season-ender.”

It’s Hard to Imagine a Reddick Trade
In his ESPN piece, Fowler did not make it clear what he meant when he said that the Cowboys would not be able to afford Reddick.

Did he mean Reddick’s projected 2024 salary of $14.25 million? Or was he referring to the possible trade acquisition cost needed to persuade the Jets to make the move?

Naturally, it might be a little bit of both.

Reddick’s high salary would make it more difficult for teams to even consider trading for him. To close a transaction, those teams would need to figure out how to include Reddick under the cap.

In March, the Jets gave up a conditional 2026 third-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in order to get Reddick first overall. Reddick would need to appear in 67.5% of the defensive snaps and earn at least 10 sacks in order for it to move up to a second-round pick.

The Jets would look foolish if they dealt him for anything less than what they had originally given up to get him. To be honest, unless they got more back than they gave up, selling him anyplace would probably make them look foolish.

That seems improbable because Reddick would only be available as a rental for the remainder of the current season to any team that acquired him. It’s reasonable to wonder what version of Reddick you would even be receiving.

Is he physically fit? Is he in peak football form? In addition, he is unhappy with his contract. If he were traded, would he even report to his new team?

Should New York Jets Trade Holdout Haason Reddick Back to Eagles? Rumor - Athlon Sports

Right now, there are much more questions than there are answers.

A New Report With Jets-Reddick Elucidates Several Points
In a lighthearted or suggestive comment, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suggested that Reddick may have fired his agent when he appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

Dianna Russini, an NFL Insider for The Athletic, dispelled such allegations.

In a column published on Saturday, September 28, Russini stated, “That didn’t actually happen; [Tory] Dandy is still communicating with the Jets on behalf of his client.”

The franchise has made it clear in public that general manager Joe Douglas does not plan to trade Reddick.

Other general managers around the league think the Jets should start making calls, even though the franchise doesn’t want to give in. Because of the 17-game season, the NFL trade deadline was pushed back this year to November 5, according to Russini. “I don’t think there is an internal panic in New York, especially with Will McDonald, a 2023 first-round pick, playing better than anyone anticipated (five sacks).” Regarding Reddick, I don’t think he’ll be back anytime soon until he signs a new contract. It might be more shocking at this point if he never plays a single snap for the Jets.
