CBS Sport: Steelers head coach gives Troubling injury report about Steelers favorite player.
Mike Tomlin has stated his decision to continue starting Justin Fields has been an easy one due to Russell Wilson’s health, and one notable reporter feels the Pittsburgh Steelers coach is telling the truth.
Some have wondered if the Steelers are slow-playing Wilson’s injury considering the club is 3-0 and has looked good with Fields under center. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says that is not the case. In a column that was published on Wednesday, Fowler wrote that Wilson’s calf ailment is “no joke, and playing/practicing in the preseason seemed to make it worse.”
Fowler went on to say that he still thinks Wilson managed Pittsburgh’s attack more skillfully in the offseason than Fields did. Wilson is reportedly recuperating from a persistent calf ailment and “simply not moving at a high clip at this point,” according to the reporter.
At the beginning of training camp, Wilson sustained the calf injury during a conditioning test. Despite this setback, he managed to edge over Fields for the starting position before aggravating the injury in preparation for Week 1. Fields, 25, took advantage of the chance to start that was presented to him, and he has done so well so far.
