Breaking news: Lions signed Former Pro Bowl Bears sensational star in a blockbuster deal.

Bears, WR Allen Robinson Resume Extension Talks

In anticipation of their Week 4 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, the Detroit Lions have added veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson to the blend. On Thursday, he was added to the active roster. The signing’s revelation was first shared on social media by Adam Schefter, an ESPN NFL insider. Robinson was a member of the Lions practice squad, but this week he might get more playing time. He didn’t record a reception in the Lions’ one and only snap during their victory over the Arizona Cardinals last weekend.

Given that tight end Sam LaPorta may have an ankle issue, Detroit might use an additional pass catcher in the lineup. As the Lions attempt to properly resume their season, Robinson provides an experienced presence in their wide receiving room.

A few years ago, Robinson was among the NFL’s top wide receivers, but injuries and aging have caused him to lose quality. As a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015, he caught 80 passes for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns, which was his finest season altogether. His lone trip to the Pro Bowl came in 2015. Along with Doug Baldwin of the Seattle Seahawks and Brandon Marshall of the New York Jets, Robinson was also co-leader in the NFL in receiving touchdowns.

Before signing a three-year, $42 million contract to play for the rival Chicago Bears in 2018, he played for four seasons in Jacksonville. 2020 was his greatest season with the Bears, hauling in 102 passes for 1,250 yards and six touchdowns.

The Lions’ acquisition of him might have an impact on quarterback Jared Goff. The Lions had a potent receiving core with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and recently signed Tim Patrick. Robinson will probably start for Detroit as their fourth option going forward. Prior to adding Robinson to the practice squad, Brad Holmes, general manager of the Lions, initially stated that the team had been a longtime admirer of Robinson.

“Allen Robinson, he was a guy that we wanted to add in free agency a couple of years ago.” General manager of the Lions Brad Holmes stated following Detroit’s signing of Robinson to the practice squad. “He’s obviously a local Detroit kid, but that’s not why he’s here—he’s just another guy who can fill in and whose ability to play is known.” Thus, the main focus at the moment is acclimating them.”

He played in 17 games with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the previous season. The veteran wide receiver did not score a touchdown in the season despite catching 34 catches for 280 yards. It will be successful if he can make the Lions offense even more explosive. This week’s Monday Night Football matchup features Detroit at home against the Seahawks.
