Patriots' Calvin Anderson Was Given 50% Chance to Live After Contracting Malaria

On Tuesday’s “First Call,” there is a noteworthy offensive line signing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. All that matters to an ex-Steeler is the man who has assumed his previous role.

A former Steeler is signed with the San Francisco 49ers through 2024.

And kudos for Saturday’s backup quarterback for Duquesne.

This past weekend, the Steelers placed offensive tackle Troy Fautanu on injured reserve, and they have since added some much-needed depth at the position. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Calvin Anderson has been signed by the team.

The lineman and the team worked out earlier today, which resulted in an agreement. Anderson appears to be joining Pittsburgh’s 53-man roster right now.

Originally from Texas, Anderson was a UDFA who saw brief spells with the Patriots and Jets before settling in Denver. Between 2020 and 2022, the linemen appeared in 41 games for the Broncos, starting 12 of them.

He signed a two-year contract with the Patriots over the summer, but before suffering a cardiac contusion during practice, he only started two of his five games. After that, Anderson was placed on injured reserve, and in 2023, he was not used again.

This past preseason, the 28-year-old returned to the field with the Patriots; but, before to final cuts, he was placed on injured reserve. That would have kept him from participating in 2024, but he was later released by the Patriots, opening the door for a future employment opportunity.

Even though the Steelers received some positive news on Fautanu today, they will continue to place a premium on their OT depth going ahead. After a poor performance in Week 2, Broderick Jones—a first-round pick—was just permanently replaced by Fautanu. However, Jones should find himself back in the starting lineup. Doug Nester, a rookie on the practice squad, was the only other depth option available to the club, so another change at the position seemed inevitable.
