CBS Sports: Giants’ injury report now includes sensational star, who is doubtful to play on Sunday.
The Browns are scheduled to play Myles Garrett on Sunday, but the Giants are unsure about their best pass rusher.
Brian Burns, an edge rusher, was added by the Giants to their injury report on Friday. Due to a groin ailment, he was limited during practice and is doubtful to play this weekend in Cleveland.
While late additions to the injury report are concerning, they can also be preventative measures, thus Burns’s status should be closely monitored for the Giants, who will need all the support they can get to win for the first game this year.
Only defensive back Nick McCloud (knee) is out for the Giants. Burns is joined by linebacker Darius Muasau (knee) in the dubious category.
Giants wide receiver says, “My chance will come,” in response to low use.
After two weeks of the season, wide receiver Jalin Hyatt of the New York Giants has only been targeted once and has not yet produced a reception. Fans had far lower expectations for the 2023 third-round pick—especially considering that the team also had to trade up for the guy.
Though allegations surfaced that Hyatt would have preferred a trade during the offseason if his playing time in New York was limited, the second-year receiver is confident he’ll make his breakthrough shortly.
“It disappoints me,” he said to ESPN on Friday. “But at the end of the day, I’m just going to keep getting better, and my chance will come, and when it comes, I will be ready.”
After being selected from Tennessee in the previous round, Hyatt had a rookie season with 373 yards but no touchdowns. He set a career high with a 109-yard performance against New England in a 10-7 victory.
Regarding the trade speculations, the 22-year-old called it “a fake story” and informed reporters that they seemed like “a hit job.”
At a press conference on Friday, head coach Brian Daboll expressed agreement, stating that Hyatt “never told me that.”
“Jalin is probably one of the closer guys I am with on this team,” he said. “He has a role, and when his number is called, he’ll be ready to go.”
Hyatt is not alone in his offensive troubles as New York has only managed 341 net passing yards in 2024, which equates to just 24 points across two games.
In Week 3, New York will play against a Cleveland defense that was formidable in 2023. But on 115 plays this season, the Browns have given up 314 yards a game on average.
With rookie Malik Nabers expected to garner a lot of attention after recording 127 yards and his first career score against Washington in Week 2, perhaps Hyatt can have his breakthrough performance on Sunday.
