CBS Sport: 49ers key player ruled out for the rest of the season due to “Serious” injury.
For the San Francisco 49ers, it truly pours when it rains.
It was disclosed to media by Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan on Monday that wide receiver Deebo Samuel had a strained calf. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Samuel’s injury will now keep him out for a few weeks.
The injury looks to have been sustained by the 28-year-old Samuel, a former First Team All-Pro, during San Francisco’s Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The revelation is unexpected because Samuel appeared completely healthy during the game and had eight receptions for 110 yards versus Minnesota.
The 49ers, the reigning NFC champions, are going through a lot right now. After being shot last month, fellow wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is still recuperating, while standout running back Christian McCaffrey is currently on injured reserve due to a worrying Achilles ailment.
With McCaffrey sidelined, Samuel—who occasionally lines up as a power runner out of the backfield—is the Niners’ finest offensive playmaker. However, since Samuel is no longer available, Chris Conley will probably have to start at wide receiver alongside Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings. Hopefully, dynamic Samuel can return to the field for the 1-1 49ers by Week 5, as they have two games against the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots that are both rather winnable.
