Based on the information available, it appears that the defense is the 2024 Las Vegas Raiders’ strongest suit. The position group on that unit that generated the most anticipation before the season began was the defensive line.
Although Christian Wilkins and Maxx Crosby are still in good health, Las Vegas has not been lucky with the health of its other important players. Tyree Wilson has also suffered from ailments, and Malcolm Koonce has missed the first four games due to an injury.
Since Las Vegas is in dire need of their assistance, they might explore for ways to meet that need outside of the company. In light of this, edge rusher Haason Reddick of the New York Jets was the subject of a few mock trade lists recently put together by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report.
Reddick hasn’t returned to the team as of yet and is currently in the middle of a contract dispute. Knox proposes that in return for Reddick, Las Vegas send tight end Michael Mayer to New York.
“To land Reddick, the Raiders could offer 2023 second-round pick Michael Mayer,” Knox says. “The former Notre Dame tight end has flashed some promise at the NFL level, but is likely stuck behind rookie Brock Bowers in Las Vegas’ priority order.”
Reddick is undoubtedly a gifted player, but this situation is, to put it mildly, intriguing. If Las Vegas were to acquire Reddick, they would also need to resolve his contract problem, which might provide further challenges.
Furthermore, even though Mayer didn’t do much in Week 1, he ought to play a respectable part in the Raiders’ offense this season. It could be wiser to wait to send him away until you see if his role grows.
