Breaking news: NFL Declares Raiders and Chargers Punishments Following Huge Brawl

Raiders, Chargers Fans Get In Violent, Bloody Brawl At SoFi Stadium

The 2024 regular season began with a 22-10 victory by the Los Angeles Chargers over the Las Vegas Raiders. Nevertheless, the most memorable aspect of the intense divisional clash was a brawl that started late in the fourth quarter. The Raiders defense stuffed Chargers running back Gus Edwards when he tried to go for a two-point conversion with 3:40 remaining in regulation.

Raiders cornerback Jack Jones had to intervene to protect his colleague defensive back when Chargers receiver Josh Palmer attempted to block Raiders safety Marcus Epps, causing the play to spill into the back of the end zone. After then, there were more altercations until the officiating team intervened. The NFL intervened on Saturday and punished those involved in Week 1 after watching the film.

On September 14, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero said that five players had been penalized for their antics on the field. “The NFL fined #Chargers WR Josh Palmer $11,255 and #Raiders CB Jack Jones $5,472 and for their roles in a fight last week,” Pelissero posted to X. “They were both removed. Due to their involvement in the altercation, Maxx Crosby ($11,255) and Marcus Epps ($11,817) were both punished.” Pelissero said that Christian Wilkins, a defensive tackle with the Raiders, received the same $11,255 fine as Crosby and Palmer.

This week, the Raiders (0-1) go on the road to play the Baltimore Ravens (0-1) while the Chargers (1-0) go to Carolina to play the struggling Panthers (0-1). On Sunday, both games begin at 1:00 p.m. ET.
