Las Vegas Raiders Jakobi Meyers excited for Monday Night Football - Sports Illustrated Las Vegas Raiders News, Analysis and More

The San Francisco 49ers have been in the news lately because of their interest in wide receiver Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders, prior to Brandon Aiyuk signing a big contract deal. According to reports, the Raiders rejected the 49ers during trade negotiations, demonstrating their desire to hold onto important players as they work out their roster plan. After weekend rumors over Aiyuk’s future with the organization, he signed a $120 million contract extension that will last for four years. The 49ers looked at a number of trade possibilities before deciding on this extension in an effort to acquire a skilled wide receiver. This included talks about Courtland Sutton with the Denver Broncos, though those talks also ended in failure.

Meyers had a strong 2023 season, registering 71 receptions for 807 yards and a career-high eight touchdowns. Meyers has demonstrated steady play in recent seasons. March 2023, he inked a $33 million three-year contract with the Raiders. With this deal, he was a more affordable choice than Aiyuk, giving the 49ers a chance to add someone who could improve their receiving group. Though the 49ers have shown interest in Meyers, Aiyuk’s breakthrough season of 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns last year cemented his place as a key member of the 49ers as they pursue a Super Bowl push.

Aiyuk had a meager performance in the Raiders’ 2024 season opener against the Chargers, managing just 28 yards on two grabs, while Meyers recorded three receptions for 61 yards. As excitement grows for the 49ers and Raiders on their different journeys this season, Aiyuk is anticipated to recover in the team’s upcoming game.
