CBS Sport: Kansas City Chiefs close in to sign jets mega star in a blockbuster deal.
The defensive line of the Kansas City Chiefs was excellent last season and proved it against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1, but they have a chance to improve significantly by taking the team square in the face.
Disgruntled pass rusher Haason Reddick of the New York Jets is the one with the pair of eyes staring back at the Chiefs head office. The two-time Pro Bowler is still refusing to accept the Jets’ multi-year contract extension, therefore he is continuing to hold out.
On Friday, September 13, ESPN’s Seth Waldor wrote a three-team blockbuster trade proposal between the Chiefs, Jets, and Las Vegas Raiders. In exchange for Reddick, Kansas City would give up defensive end George Karlaftis and a 2025 pick-swap.
Chiefs acquire Reddick, a Raiders sixth-round selection in 2025. Jets get: Raiders wide receiver Adams Davante The Raiders will receive a 2025 fifth-round pick from the Chiefs, a 2025 second-round pick from the Jets, defensive end George Karlaftis, and wide receiver Allen Lazard.
“Kansas City is trying to three-peat and could upgrade from Karlaftis — who had 10.5 sacks a year ago but has never come close to even an average pass rush win rate — to Reddick, a bona fide disruptor, through just a pick swap and some added money,” Walder stated.
“This is probably the most the Raiders would get for Adams, too, who has been subject of trade speculation for nearly a year.” At first look, it seems like the Chiefs and Jets would receive everything they could possibly need or want out of the deal, while the Raiders would be content to accept a somewhat quieter season after dealing Adams for two late-round picks in the 2025 draft and a receiver upgrade in Lazard.
Having said that, the Chiefs will have an excellent edge rusher to complement Chris Jones—possibly the best defensive lineman in the NFL—for a number of years if the other two teams can convince Las Vegas to join them.
The Chiefs would incur more costs as a result of having to accept several of Reddick’s future contract years, which the Jets and Philadelphia Eagles have objected to in recent months.
