CBS Sport: Ravens close in to sign Texans mega star in a blockbuster deal.
The reasons behind the Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens’ potential trade target, $15 million wide receiver Robert Woods, this season. Despite being expendable, a Bleacher Report says that the veteran wide receiver is still a trade candidate this season.
Since the Texans will be depending on Tank Dell, Stefon Diggs, and Nico Collins, Woods did not have a particularly good season the previous year and it doesn’t appear like he will play much. Notching 40 passes for 426 yards and a touchdown in his 14 games played, including 11 starts, he may see the field even less this season.
If Houston needs a player at a different position on their roster, Woods will most likely be included in a later trade. The Texans won’t be giving as they want to be a contender this year, so it will have to be at the appropriate price.
Since the 32-year-old isn’t getting any younger and the Texans wouldn’t know how to employ him, they have every right to let go of Woods. Even though he isn’t a superstar, the veteran wide receiver may return to the league as a trustworthy option for a team that needs one right now, like the Ravens.
Although Justice Hill has already made more catches than Nelson Agholor, Baltimore was expecting that Agholor would be a reliable weapon for Lamar Jackson. A receiver often has more catches than a running back, so acquiring Woods might offer Jackson another tool to work with.
If Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman don’t have a top-tier WR3 to balance them out, they won’t be able to do much. Although Woods is not Odell Beckham Jr., Jackson may find him to be his best option when rookie Isaiah Likely is out of the game.
According to recent speculations, Diontae Johnson may be traded by the Panthers. He was originally brought in by the Panthers to assist Adam Thielen, but following the team’s crushing defeat in Week 1, nothing has happened.
Carolina could use another wideout who needs a change of scenery, but they are still experimenting with a few candidates. Woods isn’t receiving much playing time in Houston, but he could be able to offer Bryce Young a fresh start by carving out a WR3 role.
