CBS Sport: Cowboys sensational player ruled out of practice due to injury.
Due to what appeared to be a calf issue, Kneeland was unable to participate in practice on Wednesday. According to The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Kneeland participated in team exercises during the portion of practice that was open to reporters, but he began the session working with the rehab group.
That’s encouraging for his availability on Sunday, but considering how erratic calf injuries can be and how long they may last if not healed, you have to question whether the Cowboys should be cautious with the gifted youngster.
Maybe Kneeland was just easing some pain. The Cowboys have some of the best rehab and training staffs in the NFL. In order to be safe, they started Kneeland on the resistance cables on Thursday and wouldn’t release him if there was a significant chance that he would re-injure the muscle.
It’s unclear at this time if Kneeland will face the Saints. The DNP on Wednesday raised concerns, but Cowboys supporters should expect him to play if he’s declared a full participant on Thursday and gets through Friday’s practice without any issues. Considering that calf injuries nearly normally necessitate a multi-week layoff, it would be an amazing recovery.
This brings up the prospect of “soreness” once more. In any case, if Kneeland can build on his impressive debut, it would be enormous. Among Dallas’ defensive lineman, he played the fourth-most snaps, finished with a run-defense grade of 67.8, and only had three fewer pressures than Parsons.
Kneeland’s availability—or lack thereof—for Sunday will be determined by the Cowboys’ final injury reports of the week.
