CBS Sport: 49ers close in to sign Raiders mega star in a blockbuster deal.
Since the Receiver’s Netflix release, there have been trade rumors involving Davante Adams and the Las Vegas Raiders. Naturally, the New York Jets, coached by his former quarterback Aaron Rodgers, are said to be the leading contender.
Even yet, these were only hearsay, as another Raiders receiver was being pursued for a trade. Star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was involved in a contract dispute with the San Francisco 49ers. In case Aiyuk was part of a deal, the 49ers contacted the Raiders to find out more information regarding Jakobi Meyer. This was initially reported by Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle.
“The Raiders were approached about selling starting receiver Jakobi Meyers; they are thought to be open to holding onto picks in order to set themselves up to choose a quarterback next spring. S.F. made overtures for the sixth-year veteran, but the Raiders rejected him.”
Vic Tafur contributed his thoughts about how fast the Raiders rejected this after the fact.
Meyers led the Raiders in touchdowns the previous season and has been a reliable receiver in the NFL. The Raiders were unwilling to split ways with him and jeopardize their core as he is a crucial component of the offense.
Given that Kyle Shanahan’s scheme is a good fit for his skill set, it makes sense that the 49ers attempted to oust him.
