Breaking news: Former Lions Sensational QB Set to Part ways With the Rams in a “Monumental” trade idea.

Is Matthew Stafford a Hall of Famer right now?

On Sunday, September 8, at Ford Field, the Detroit Lions narrowly defeated the Los Angeles Rams 26–20 in overtime. Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Rams and a former Lion, made his second visit to Detroit during the game. Even though it’s early in the season, one NFL writer and expert advises the Los Angeles Rams to think about making a “monumental Matthew Stafford trade” in case the 2024 campaign “goes south.”

“There Must Be No Hard Feeling” Should the Rams and Stafford Split Up
Lou Scataglia states that “the LA Rams are already injured to dangerously significant levels, and shades of 2022 are beginning to pop up” in a feature published on September 10 for Ramblin’ Fan.

Scataglia wrote in the article, “The Rams accomplished what they set out to do by trading for Matthew Stafford, so any success after that is just sprinkles on top.” Stafford was persuaded to attempt winning the Super Bowl, and they succeeded. They also realized that he is not a long-term solution and is approaching his 30s when they made the transaction. Therefore, if the LA Rams’ 2024 NFL season ends in disappointment, they ought to investigate whether any other clubs in a winning position could be interested in acquiring Stafford.

Scataglia continued, saying that the Rams “would be doing right by Stafford if the season is lost,” and that the impending trade deadline “may end up going down as the most consequential trade deadline move in NFL history.”

“When the time comes for the Rams and Stafford to part ways, there should be no bad blood under any circumstances, and a trade deadline trade would be a possible scenario here,” he said.

Stafford was “clearly in the back-nine of his maybe-Hall of Fame career,” according to Scataglia, who also said that it’s “not crazy to think that Stafford, who has a wife and kids, has considered retirement in the near future.”

This isn’t the first time the prospect of Stafford being dealt to another NFL team has floated. Before Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott signed a big deal with the team on September 8, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox said he thought the Rams would be a good fit for Prescott in a September 5 article on the top 2025 NFL free agency landing spots.

Although Stafford’s deal with the Rams runs through 2026, Knox said in the article that “Stafford’s contract situation will get very interesting after this year.” Stafford effectively gave up his 2025 promises when he consented to rework the agreement in July in order to obtain more guaranteed funds up front.
