CBS Sport: Steelers release favorite outside linebacker from the practice squad.
Marcus Haynes, an outside linebacker, has been released by the Pittsburgh Steelers from their practice squad. Ade Ogundeji is the only outside linebacker Pittsburgh currently has on their practice squad. With DeMarvin Leal playing both inside and outside linebacker, they have four outside linebackers on the active roster.
Haynes joined the team towards the end of training camp following a spate of injuries to players at the position. Outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon remains on injured reserve, and promising rookie Julius Welschof was released with an injury settlement, so the Steelers are still dealing with the aftermath from both injuries.
Shaquan Davis, a wide receiver, took Haynes’ place on the practice squad. After jumping around from team to team in the 2023 NFL Draft as an undrafted free agent out of Old Dominion, Haynes signed with the Denver Broncos after graduating from college. Haynes has also played for the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans.
If he is unable to find another opportunity in the league, he has committed to play for the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas in the spring. Over his first year in the league, Haynes has not yet participated in an NFL game.
