CBS Sport: Packers sign in Steelers favorite player in a blockbuster deal.
The Green Bay Packers announced on Tuesday that they have added a former wide receiver from the Pittsburgh Steelers to their practice squad. The Packers cut former Steelers running back La’Mical Perine in retaliation.
A few days before the Steelers’ second preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, on August 15, Luther signed a contract with the team. He just played 17 snaps over the course of two preseason games, so he didn’t really leave his imprint. Luther was looked at by the Steelers as a wide receiver and returner.
He was an undrafted free agent when he entered the NFL in the 2023 NFL Draft, having gone through Gardner-Webb. Luther has played for the New England Patriots, the New York Jets, the Steelers, and the Packers in the past year.
The 5-foot-11 wide receiver is still without an NFL game experience. Luther finished his career with Gardner-Webb with 1035 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, earning him a spot on the 2022 First Team All-Big South team. On his pro day, he clocked a 4.5 40-yard sprint to catch the attention of the team following his impressive, breakout campaign with the Runnin’ Bulldogs.
