CBS Sport: New Orleans Saints’ mega star sign a blockbuster deal with Steelers.
In Week 1, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Falcons 18-10 in a close game without allowing a touchdown. Pittsburgh has now made some personnel changes in anticipation of their Week 2 matchup with the Denver Broncos.
On Tuesday, the Steelers announced that they had released linebacker Marcus Haynes and added former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Shaquan Davis to their practice squad.
After signing as an undrafted free agent in the offseason, Davis spent the entire 2023 season on the practice squad with the Saints. This offseason, he briefly attended the Philadelphia Eagles’ training camp before returning to the Saints.
The team’s best wideout option is still George Pickens, but there is only youth and inexperience behind him. Against the Falcons, Pickens caught two catches for eight yards, while rookie Roman Wilson is still sidelined due to an ankle issue.
While Wilson continues to heal, Davis may have an opportunity to earn a spot on the 53-man roster this week alongside Quez Watkins, Ben Skowronek, and Brandon Johnson.
In what was meant to be quarterback Russell Wilson’s return to Denver, the Steelers take on the Denver Broncos in Week 2. However, backup Justin Fields, who started against the Falcons, has been designated the starter.
During his time as a college player at South Carolina State, Davis finished with 11 touchdowns and 934 receiving yards. He had 23 receptions for 546 yards and five touchdowns in 2022.
