Just in: Raiders add another talented star player on the active roster following Malcolm Koonce’s injury.
The Las Vegas Raiders announced on Saturday that DE Malcolm Koonce had been placed on the Reserve/Injured list and that DE Charles Snowden had been brought to the active roster.
On August 28, Snowden signed a contract to join the Raiders practice squad. He was a member of Tampa Bay and Chicago’s practice squads prior to being added to the Raiders roster in December. As a Virginia native and undrafted free agent, Snowden joined the Bears in the NFL in 2021. The 245-pound, 6-7 Washington, D.C. native has participated in two games in his career.
In addition, for the Raiders’ game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, CB Sam Webb has been activated off the practice squad.
Before Week 1, the Chargers activate DJ Chark Jr.’s IR status.
Chark missed the first week of the season and then the first month.
Wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. (hip) was originally expected to miss the first game for the Los Angeles Chargers, but now that he’s been placed on injured reserve, his absence will be prolonged, as reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Chark will now miss the season’s opening four games. For their game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, the Chargers activated LB Shaquille Quarterman from the practice squad and signed TE Eric Tomlinson to the active roster.
Chark had played virtually little in the preseason and hadn’t practiced all week. In the Chargers’ opening preseason game, a 16-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, he had zero receptions on three targets. In the Chargers’ 13-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Chark continued without receiving a target and gained three yards on one carry.
Daniel Popper of The Athletic tweeted on August 19 that Chark was hobbling throughout that Monday’s workout.
“DJ Chark appeared weak following the first 11-on-11 play. was pulling on his hip flexor on the left.
Joshua Palmer, Ladd McConkey, and Quentin Johnston will now need to be Justin Herbert’s top three wide receivers to begin the season.
Of the Chargers wide receivers Palmer, McConkey, and Johnston, which one will be the best?
DJ Chark Jr. was expected to be the team’s deep threat rather than its top receiver. There has been a lot of conjecture regarding which wideout will lead the team since Jim Harbaugh took over and the new squad came together, particularly among fantasy football managers.
A balance is the most likely scenario. Going back to Harbaugh’s final NFL season with the 49ers, he merely never had a standout receiver. Considering how frequently Frank Gore was used as a runner and receiver in those years, Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, and Vernon Davis all had turns.
It is more likely that Herbert will distribute the ball around the offense in the absence of a standout player. According to the most recent report from Daniel Popper of The Athletic, he is expected to play despite a foot injury that has been the subject of weeks of rehabilitation.
According to Herbert, “I’m not really thinking about it right now,” as reported by The Athletic. “If you take care of it early on, you’ll do a fantastic job in the long run, whether that means making sure you’re recovering, icing, and doing everything you can in the training room before and after practice to avoid dealing with it later. I believe it will be okay as long as we are in front of it.
