Breaking news: Steelers Signs Texans Sensational WR in a Blockbuster Deal Ahead of Falcons game.
Ben Skowronek, a wide receiver, has been added to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ active roster for their Week 1 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons after being promoted off the practice squad. Veteran player Skowronek, who formerly played for the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams, joined the Steelers practice squad last week. Skowronek will help cover for rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson, who is still recovering from an ankle injury.
“I have a great deal of respect for Coach Tomlin and the way the Pittsburgh organization has run over the years. I grew up watching them and all that, so I got a ton of respect for the way they play football and just thought it would be a good fit for how I play football,” Skowronek stated. “I had, like, a couple of opportunities to join practice squads and I just thought Pittsburgh would be the best fit for me.”
With the Rams, Skowronek excelled on special teams just as much as he did as a wide receiver. He not only performed admirably at wide receiver for them in 2022, but he also filled in at fullback. That did not come to fruition in 2023, but Skowronek hopes it could in Pittsburgh.
Coach McVay approached me, and I was all for it because “you got to find what you’re good at in this league and find a role,” Skowronek stated. “Last year, I didn’t actually do it at all, and I kind of hoped every week that a package would get in for me, but it didn’t work out, so, you know, if that works out here, I’ll be happy to do it. It’s a role that I adore doing. It truly demonstrates my range as a football player, in my opinion.
Skowronek will probably be used by the Steelers on special teams in addition to being given a respectable role to play on the offense. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the Steelers frequently keep the ball on the ground due to the quarterback instability, and Skowronek would likely play a significant role in that gameplan.
