ESPN Report: I Was Not an Option For The Lions, Favorite Star Man Reveals…
Although he is happy to be a Detroit Lion, Tim Patrick almost didn’t make the move.
The Denver Broncos announced before roster cuts that wide receiver Tim Patrick would be leaving the team. He would be released if a trade could not be arranged. Though he had missed the previous two seasons due to a serious injury, it was clear that the Detroit Lions were interested in him, and regardless of where he ended up, a trade seemed likely.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated that Patrick was anticipated to sign with the Lions practice squad following the announcement of roster cuts. That of course transpired, so a trade hadn’t been done and Patrick embraced the opportunity in Detroit over a presumption he had other opportunities out there.
Although it’s uncertain if Patrick will play in the season opener against the Rams on Sunday night, Mike Payton of AtoZ Sports explained that they can use three practice squad raises before they have to in order to gradually incorporate Patrick into the 53-man roster.
According to what he stated on Thursday, as reported by John Maakaron of SI.com, Patrick is still getting used to his new squad and has only been given opportunities. He believes the Lions are a perfect fit for him, though, too.
“Metropolis was the best choice. Although it might not seem tempting at first, once I figured everything out, I felt like it gave the biggest benefits in the long term, Patrick stated. “I think our team’s identity is embodied in the way I try to play football and in the head coach, who really believes in grit.” That is my style of playing football. I therefore didn’t feel the need to alter who I am in order to fit in with the team. They obviously practice differently, and I have to adjust to that. Other than that, though, I think our team’s identity is embodied in the way I love to play football.
According to Tim Patrick, he nearly wasn’t a Detroit Lion.
It turns out that the general belief that Patrick would spark some trade interest as soon as the Broncos announced their intention to part ways with him was accurate.
According to Patrick, the Broncos attempted to finalize a trade that would have sent him to the New Orleans Saints, but it was unsuccessful.
Remarkably, Tim Patrick, the new wide receiver for the Lions, said that the Broncos informed him that they were attempting to arrange a trade with the Saints when they chose to cut him following the preseason. Since the two parties were unable to agree, Patrick chose to accept a practice squad contract with the Lions.
