After being hit by a pitch in the first inning, Bryce Harper, the first baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies, left Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays due to an elbow injury.

On the third pitch of his at-bat, Harper was hit by Blue Jays right-hander Bowden Francis with a four-seam fastball that clocked in at 92.9 mph, striking his left elbow. Harper departed the game with a left elbow injury, according to the Phillies, and will be assessed further. Harper was replaced in the third inning by Edmundo Sosa.

Harper said to MLB.com after the game that he felt “fine.” Reporters were informed by Phillies manager Rob Thomson that Harper would not be rested in the near future.

Harper recently disclosed to MLB.com that he has been playing with irritated elbows and wrists.

After a Tuesday night swing against Toronto, Harper was spotted writhing in agony; nevertheless, on Wednesday, he was back in the starting lineup.

Throughout his career, Harper has also had to contend with various elbow issues. Before the 2023 season, he had Tommy John surgery, but he recovered at a record-breaking rate.

The Phillies are pushing for their first NL East title since 2011, and Harper was selected to his eighth MLB All-Star team this season. They led the Atlanta Braves by seven games going into Wednesday’s game, which they were now 82-56.

Harper is making cuts.282/.371/.521 with 26 home runs and 76 RBIs, accompanied with a.910 OPS.
