Trent Williams, the outstanding left tackle for the San Francisco 49ers, is expected to play against the New York Jets in Week 1. After securing a better contract, Williams will formally conclude his holdout on Tuesday and return to the team.

Williams made the decision to boycott all of training camp, including drills and exhibition games, in an effort to put pressure on the 49ers to provide him a better contract. Williams, a 36-year-old offensive lineman who is regarded as the greatest in the NFL, was “only” scheduled to earn $20.05 million in 2024 and has no more guaranteed money left on his contract.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the 49ers have now chosen to grant Williams his request. With a guaranteed salary of $48 million and a pay increase of $27.5 million in 2024, he will now be under a three-year, $82.66 million contract.

Williams will be the highest-paid offensive lineman in the league in terms of salary in 2024, even after deducting $2 million for fines he paid for skipping training camp.

Following his 2020 trade with Washington to join the 49ers, Trent Williams has been a standout player for the squad. He has been selected for four Pro Bowls, bringing his career total to eleven. He has also been selected for the First Team All-Pro for the last three seasons.
