Giants Release FB/TE Jakob Johnson from Roster

Jakob Johnson of the New York Giants has had a demanding week. On August 27, the Giants cut him, and the following day, they re-added him to the practice squad. They then added him to the active roster, but they later removed him again after adding corner Adoree’ Jackson.

He was once again assigned to New York’s practice squad on Monday. But there’s always a matching move around this time of year. Jackson was given more room by cutting Johnson. At the expense of receiver Miles Boykin, who was later cut, he was added to the practice squad.

Considering how well-positioned he appeared to make the first 53-man roster, that release is somewhat unexpected. He and Bryce Ford-Wheaton are both large receivers who are useful on special teams. The latter prevailed. That has cost Boykin more than just a roster spot, at least for the time being.

Better or worse? Giants' cornerbacks - Big Blue View

Josh Jacobs, a running back for the Green Bay Packers, was released by the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday. The Athletic published an article about his career. There was talk of the New York Giants being a possible suitor. “The Giants came on strong with an offer between $3 million and $4 million more than he eventually accepted,” Pompei wrote. “But Jacobs was turned off by the New York taxes, lifestyle, media and the artificial turf at MetLife Stadium.”
