Breaking: Yankees key player ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury
Pitcher Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees was lifted early on Monday after he seemed to be experiencing leg pain. After the game, the former Cy Young winner allayed supporters’ fears.
At Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, where his team was playing the Texas Rangers, Cole was scheduled to return for the seventh inning.
However, with his side leading 7-1, Cole was removed from the mound after appearing to be in some agony. After attempting to try it out, he begged to be removed from the game.
Without Cole, the Yankees managed to defeat the Rangers 8–4.
Later, the team dubbed the problem a simple cramp in the calves. Cole later discussed his early departure with media.
Cole responded to the injury by saying, “I wasn’t super concerned.” “I simply didn’t think it was appropriate to continue trying to influence it publicly.” I experienced something similar with the Dodgers last season. For a few innings, I could handle it, but after that, it became too much. There, I jogged. It didn’t affect me. It doesn’t feel like it’s moving or walking. for whatever reason regarding my subsequent actions.
Following the news that Cole was only experiencing cramps, Yankees supporters couldn’t resist making fun of the situation.
During a 2022 start, Cole is known for consuming a whole banana in between innings (see the video here). There were others who believed he might have simply forgotten to do that on Monday against the Rangers.
Following an elbow injury that kept him out of action for the first half of the 2024 season, Cole has had an inconsistent season thus far.
However, Cole’s situation has recently begun to improve. Cole has tossed 34 innings with an ERA of 1.85 in six starts since August.
