Davante Adams' Fantasy Outlook: Age and Average QB Play To Doom Raiders WR1

Star wide receiver Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders was the focus of a lot of trade rumors over the offseason, and as September 8th, the start of the regular season versus the Los Angeles Chargers, approaches, the rumors aren’t going away.

The Raiders are a mediocre team without a viable center, which has irritated Adams, and that is the same rationale driving the trade offers and conversations among talking heads.

In light of this, Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine wrote a “bold trade prediction” on Saturday, August 31, predicting that the Raiders will reach a deal to sell Adams before the NFL’s trade deadline on November 5.

“Adams has played most of his career with Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback,” Ballentine stated. It was anticipated that he would be reunited with Derek Carr, his college teammate, when he was moved to the Raiders. Adams has already played with Jimmy Garoppolo while Carr was in New Orleans. Up next are Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell, and Adams.”

In his five years as a professional, Minshew is 15–22 as a starter and has thrown for 59 touchdowns versus 24 interceptions. Even though Minshew has had his moments and finished the previous season 7-6 with the Indianapolis Colts while playing in the Pro Bowl, one could argue that Adams’ frustrations are likely to persist, if only occasionally, as Minshew takes over as the team’s quarterback.

The New York Jets rank among the most logical destinations if the Raiders opt to trade Adams, whose $25.35 million salary cap charge in 2024 might be an unneeded financial burden on a team that isn’t ready to win at a serious level.

Rodgers, the quarterback there, is fit despite rupturing his Achilles tendon in the first game of the previous campaign. His contract only lasts for a year, and the organization is focused on winning right now.

New York is perhaps the most likely contender for the six-time Pro Bowl receiver, given the circumstances surrounding the Jets and the long-standing working connection between Adams and Rodgers from their time with the Green Bay Packers.
