Desmond Ridder, a former starting quarterback for Atlanta, was released by the Arizona Cardinals and re-signed to the practice squad. In a match that didn’t seem to be close, Ridder lost the backup position to Clayton Tune.

The trade that sent the former Falcon to Arizona hasn’t held up well at all for either party. The quarterback was traded for Rondale Moore, who will not play for Atlanta this season. Since Arizona swiftly figured out the same solution that Atlanta did the previous season, Ridder has essentially stopped mattering.

In this league, Desmond Ridder isn’t yet ready to be a starter or a backup.
With his physical attributes, Ridder may be a top-tier backup option or a bottom-tier starter in the league. But what derailed Ridder’s Atlanta tenure has persisted in Arizona and might put an end to the quarterback’s NFL career.

It is the incapacity to assess the situation and make the appropriate plays in the allotted amount of time. With his tardy reflexes losing his team yardage and frequently leading to turnover opportunities, it seems as though the field is moving two seconds ahead of the quarterback.

Paired with the reality Ridder’s arm and speed aren’t top-tier and there is little reason for the former Falcon to make a roster. It is easy to sympathize for a guy who always handled himself well and took responsibility for problems and mistakes during his tenure in Atlanta.

As pleasant as Ridder might be the truth is simple unless his ability to make decisions swiftly speeds up Ridder is on his way out of the league. There are several backup quarterbacks available, and Desmond is among the best.

Even if Kyler Murray loses time to injury it seems Ridder’s time as a starter is already done. His only opportunity to stick around is to find a method to boost his processing speed and show himself capable of playing in rhythm on Arizona’s practice team.
