Josh Jacobs has received a lot of attention lately, as is typical when someone receives the Dan Pompei treatment. The majority of it is not good for the Raiders, who seemingly let Jacobs leave without any discussion this offseason. This is only the most recent in a long string of negative stories about the Raiders organization that have surfaced this week, and I have no doubt that someone in their PR department is eager for it to be 5 p.m.

But in that piece, for a brief minute, the Raiders get away with one. Raiders supporters get to have an out-of-body experience and feel what it might be like in a universe where the Chiefs aren’t the NFL’s biggest underdog for a brief, happy moment. There’s not really a better word to describe it than “a moment of zen,” even if it would be corny.

One of the numerous amusing anecdotes tucked away in Pompei’s tale mentions that the Chiefs were among the six teams hoping to sign Jacobs this offseason and that they made a determined effort. His answer is far superior to any thank-you note from the local newspaper.

He remarked, “They were really trying to get me.” However, I had no intention of going there. As soon as you are rivals, you really dislike that person, in my opinion. I didn’t think I looked good in that color. In addition, I’ve always aspired to be the guy on the dominant team. My goal is to be the player who overcomes the team in control.

Place it between the beams. It makes sense why he desired to be a Raider for eternity. And even though he will soon eclipse the Packers’ top running back in terms of production, it still stinks—just not quite as much. Because he had the option to visit the Chiefs, but he chose not to. He refused to accept their enormous payment offer. Wherever you can win, you take it.
