Johnson played in 37 games and made 20 starts during his three seasons (2019–2022) with the Patriots. His two seasons with the Raiders came after his experience in New England laid the groundwork for his NFL career. Johnson, who was signed by the Giants on August 17, was added to the team’s tight end/fullback depth after tight end Tyree Jackson was placed on waivers or declared injured.

The veteran player, who has played in 67 NFL games with 34 starts over the course of five seasons, has made a swift transition with his elevation to the active roster.

Johnson’s move is made more seamless by his knowledge with the offensive methods and players of the Giants, particularly offensive linemen Greg Van Roten and Jermaine Eluemunor.
