NFL Report: Raiders Sign Promising Former Chargers DB and Athletic Former Colts DT off waivers.

Jonah Laulu - Indianapolis Colts Defensive Tackle - ESPN

The Las Vegas Raiders have been adding players again after spending the last several days reducing their roster to 53 players in accordance with NFL regulations. The Raiders were able to identify a few players with value out of the hundreds of players in the league that suddenly became available.

Las Vegas claimed former Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Jonah Laulu and former Los Angeles Chargers defensive back Thomas Harper, per the August 28 waiver wire.

Harper, a Notre Dame product who was signed as an undrafted rookie free agency this offseason, showed promise in the preseason. Pro Football Focus ranked him as the ninth-best defensive for the Chargers during the preseason. According to an X post from Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston on August 28, Los Angeles was actually considering adding him back to the practice squad.

Before the Chargers could get a chance to recover him, the Raiders were able to capture him. He’s an intriguing prospect for Las Vegas to sign, especially considering how highly his previous team regarded him. Although he only had two interceptions in five years of college, he was not much of a ball hawk; yet, in his last year, he recorded 6.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.

The Raiders of Las Vegas Additionally Add The other guy the Raiders added off waivers is Jonah Laulu Laulu, who was selected by the Colts in the seventh round of this year’s draft. According to a Justin Melo of The Draft Network report dated August 28, X, the Colts planned to sign him to the practice squad, just like they did with Harper.

As a recent draft pick, Indianapolis took a chance by allowing Laulu to go unclaimed, and it didn’t work out. Laulu might grow to be a Raiders fan favorite very quickly. He played collegiate football in Hawaii and Oklahoma, but he was born and reared in Las Vegas, Nevada. The athletic defensive lineman will be heading home.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com highlighted Laulu’s athleticism in his draft profile, but also expressed concern about his small stature.

Zierlein described the player as a “interior defender with outstanding athletic traits but below-average mass.” Laulu has exceptional movement and a closing sprint to the football because to her loose, explosive hips. Although he lacks excellent instincts and diagnosing speed, he can become a more disruptive run defender by springing into blockers off the snap. Laulu’s rapid production isn’t particularly noteworthy, but if a team can assist in crafting his hands and counters, it’s clear that all the ingredients are there. Laulu will be a sought-after addition as a late choice or priority free agent due to his potential and qualities.

Laulu’s athletic ability makes him a desirable prospect, but at just 289 pounds, he may be bullied early in his career until he can gain weight.

No Players from the Las Vegas Raiders Were Named
Despite being able to steal a few players who other clubs were hoping to hold onto, the Raiders were fortunate enough to avoid having any players cut from their squad. That implies that a large number of the guys whom Las Vegas waived will probably soon be added to the practice squad.

The Raiders now let any player they liked but didn’t think was good enough to earn a spot on the active roster to return at any time if there is shared interest.
