CBS sport: Yankees mega star Juan Soto sent strong message to fans chanting for him to stay.
Juan Soto is aware that the New York Yankees’ supporters want him to stay for the upcoming season and beyond.
“Please stay Soto” was a distinct chant heard by Yankee Stadium patrons throughout Sunday’s victory over the Colorado Rockies. The chants were loud enough for Aaron Judge and Soto to hear and respond to them.
Soto was questioned over the shouts following the game. In response, he advised Yankee supporters to bring up the matter with general manager Brian Cashman.
“I’m not sure. They must speak with Cashman,” Soto chuckled.
At the end of the season, Soto will become a free agent, so the Yankees will need to make decisions about his future quickly. Considering he hit his 37th home run of the season in Sunday’s triumph, it is difficult to say he is not worth the high price. Though the cross-town Mets could also have an influence, there seems to be a perception that the Yankees are the favorites to keep him.
Despite their reputation for being rough, Yankee fans genuinely seem to like Soto. When it comes time for him to decide, that might matter, but money will undoubtedly play a role.
