Is it possible that Joe Schoen will trade one of these players to another team?

Brian Daboll and the NY Giants are almost to cut day. General manager Joe Schoen may not be done looking to enlist additional assistance from outside sources, even though his whole attention is on attempting to reduce the number to 53. In the last few days, there have been some deals in the NFL. Is there possibly more to come?

It’s evident now more than ever that the Giants need reinforcements in the secondary, with defensive coordinator Shane Bowen specifically in need of a new cornerback. However, the G-Men may be able to survive without a few of their players. Azeez Ojulari and Darius Slayton are two names that have been thrown around recently. Could one of them be about to make a last-minute deal?

Another inside linebacker would be very helpful in addition to a cornerback, as Micah McFadden’s hip issue may prevent him from playing in Week 1 and camp standout Dyontae Johnson is currently recovering from an ankle injury. For NY, an ILB or CB2 would be perfect.

Although it would hurt a little to give up Ojulari, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns will be tremendous players up front for Bowen and company. Ojulari will come off the bench first, but he might be more useful for a different team—ideally, one that is prepared to part with that CB or ILB we specified.

Slayton, on the other hand, has led the Giants in receiving yards for four of the last five campaigns. We would be sad to see him go because he has been Mr. Reliable. Though Slayton is nearing the end of his deal, the Giants have some depth at the position with Malik Nabers offering a spark and Jalin Hyatt a chance to take Slayton’s place in the starting lineup.

In an ideal scenario, neither player would move and Schoen could provide defensive support in a different manner, but things may get complicated. If a trade involving either player happens, we should find out soon enough, but Schoen needs to figure out how to add some CB/ILB support. How much of a worry both positions are going into the season opener against Minnesota has been made clear during the preseason.
