Rams starting LT Alaric Jackson suspended for Week 1 vs. Detroit Lions - Pride Of Detroit

The league is imposing some heavy penalties.

Due to infractions of the league’s personal conduct rules, the NFL announced two significant penalties on Friday. Alaric Jackson, an offensive lineman for the Rams, was suspended for two games, while Zay Jones, a wide receiver for the Cardinals, was suspended for five.

Following Jones’ arrest in November of last year, misdemeanor domestic assault charges were dismissed in March. The league, as it usually does, carried out its own investigation and chose a five-game suspension in spite of the withdrawn allegations. The 29-year-old Jones played for the Jacksonville Jaguars for the previous two seasons before agreeing to a one-year contract with Arizona in May.

He is qualified to play for the Cardinals again in their away game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 6.

Regarding Jackson, he joined Los Angeles as an undrafted free agency out of Iowa in 2021 and has remained there ever since. He didn’t play much in his NFL debut and was sidelined by blood clots at the end of the 2022 season. After making a strong comeback the previous season, the 26-year-old started all 15 of his regular season games as well as the Rams’ lone postseason match. He was supposed to start the season as L.A.’s left tackle, but Joe Noteboom will probably take over until he is cleared to return.

Jackson will miss the Rams’ opening game against the Detroit Lions and their Week 2 showdown against the Arizona Cardinals after agreeing to a one-year restricted free agency tender worth $4.89 million this offseason. In Week 3, when Los Angeles plays their home opener against the San Francisco 49ers, he is eligible to rejoin the squad.
