Breaking: Raiders Close In To Sign In Bears Mega Star In a Blockbuster Deal.
Before the first week of the regular season, a desperate Las Vegas Raiders squad could consider a trade for a second-year Chicago Bears quarterback. Gardner Minshew was selected by Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce to start for the squad in Week 1 on Sunday morning.
Pierce, however, grudgingly bestowed the title upon Minshew. Following the Raiders’ Saturday night loss to the Cowboys, Pierce stated that Aidan O’Connell, the team’s second-year quarterback, and Minshew had a difficult training camp.
As I’ve been saying since Day 1, everyone wants to see a player simply accept it and declare, “I’m your guy,” Pierce said. Clearly, that is most likely untrue. As a result, we will have to make a choice that we will live with and support the person who that quarterback is for the Raiders going forward.”
The situation with the Las Vegas passing strategy is so awful that Pierce, even with Josh Jacobs departing for the Green Bay Packers in free agency, ordered his offensive line to make significant modifications this offseason so they could organize the offense around the running game.
Before the season opens on September 8, the Raiders may investigate alternatives from outside the organization. This preseason, one quarterback’s reputation has been growing. Tyson Bagent, the undrafted quarterback for the Bears, started the season after Justin Fields was sidelined for four games due to injury.
Bagent has been mentioned lately as a possible trade asset for the Bears. His goal in the league is to be a starting player. Bagent’s prospects of starting in Chicago are virtually nonexistent because the Bears selected Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the NFL.
The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen recommended that the Raiders look into trading Bagent to the Bears.
Last year, the Raiders witnessed firsthand how dangerous Bagent can be. On October 22, Bagent started for the Bears at Soldier Field as Chicago defeated the Raiders 30–12 points. In the Bears’ victory, Bagent completed 21 of 29 passes for 162 yards and one touchdown.
The Bears require depth in the trenches, much like the Cleveland Browns, who are considering trading quarterback Doritan Thompson-Robinson, who is in his second season. If the Bears are unwilling to deal up a 2025 draft pick, the Raiders may be able to provide depth on the offensive or defensive line.
