Breaking: Broncos Head Coach Name Starting QB to Put an End to the Horrible QB Competition.
Following considerable deliberation, head coach Sean Peyton of the Denver Broncos has elected to start rookie quarterback Bo Nix in the 2024 NFL season.
Rather than fighting for a sliver of respectability right now by starting a veteran under center, the Broncos should start planning for the future as they are probably not even close to being able to compete for a position in the Super Bowl or the playoffs.
Since John Elway more than 40 years ago, Nix will be the first rookie for the Broncos to start in his debut regular season game.
The legendary Broncos player did, however, express his belief that Nix is capable of maintaining the QB1 position.
According to Mile High Sports, Elway stated, “He’s going to have his ups and downs as a young guy—I had plenty of those—but I think he’s got all the talent, will, and mind strength to be able to do it.”
After two miserable seasons with an aging Russell Wilson at quarterback, Denver selected Nix with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Broncos are hoping this is the beginning of a genuine comeback to being competitive.
Despite having three Super Bowl victories under its belt, the team has not qualified for the postseason since taking home the championship in 2015.
With 364 completed passes, 45 passing touchdowns, and an NCAA record-setting 77.4 percent pass completion percentage, Nix had an incredible 2023 season with the University of Oregon.
Some have even drawn comparisons between him and former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, with whom Payton shared the 2009 championship.
Nix completed eight of nine passes for 80 yards and one score in Denver’s most recent preseason game, a 27-2 victory over the Green Bay Packers.
