Breaking: CEO of Amazon’ Jeff Bezos has Made A Decision About Buying Celtics.
Majority owner Wyc Grousbeck put the Boston Celtics up for sale not long after the team won its 18th NBA championship in June.
The timing didn’t seem right, and there have been rumors floating around lately that Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, is interested in purchasing the squad.
However, Bezos has left the running to purchase the team, according to NBACentral.
With an estimated net worth of $200 billion, Bezos founded the e-commerce behemoth Amazon in 1994, making him one of the richest persons in the world, if not the richest, in history.
Grousbeck is the leader of the investment group that bought the Celtics in 2002. The team had been stuck in mediocrity for ten years after the great Larry Bird retired, when the company bought the team.
After making trades for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett in 2007, they quickly rose to prominence and won their first world championship since 1986.
Although this June’s victory was only their second since 1986, many believe that they could win a few more rings in the upcoming years because of the relative youth of their core.
The player most people believe to be the best player in Boston, Jayson Tatum, is 26 years old, and this season’s MVP of the NBA Finals, Jaylen Brown, will be 28 early.
However, their bench is extremely thin and starting point guard Jrue Holiday is 34 years old, which has some people thinking they could be primed for an upset in the 2025 playoffs.
