Breaking: Giants favorite starting linebacker ruled out due to injury.
Against the Houston Texans this past Saturday in Week 2 of the preseason, the New York Giants lost two linebackers. Micah McFadden was forced off the field by a cart after suffering a groin injury that left him on the ground.
Long-term injuries are undoubtedly a worry wherever a cart is involved. Nevertheless, Tyrone Tracy ended up merely requiring identical treatment, so the Giants were fortunate this time. Tracy only suffered a minor low ankle injury. Despite the fact that McFadden’s injury is more serious, there is still hope that he will be ready to play against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1.
McFadden is still anticipated to lose time, but three weeks is a lot better than several months, as the use of a cart might occasionally imply, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
Alongside starting Bobby Okereke, the third-year linebacker for the Giants played 736 snaps in the previous campaign. 14 pressures, 71 tackles, a 20.7% missed tackle rate, 298 yards in coverage, and two touchdowns were allowed by him. McFadden showed glimpses of brilliance despite his flaws, managing an interception and three pass breakups. He needed to improve in that area of his game since, while he had a few standout run defense performances, his overall play was inconsistent.
Due to his north-south linebacker position, McFadden is particularly adept at breaking through the line of scrimmage and creating plays in the offensive backfield by taking advantage of gaps.
The Giants need him to stay healthy for the whole of the season since they don’t have a guy on the roster who can replace his particular skill set. Although Okereke can partially compensate for his loss, it is best for both of them to be on the field together.
