Breaking: Eagles key player ruled out during practice due to injury.
Mekhi Becton, an offensive lineman with the Philadelphia Eagles, left practice on Sunday with what appeared to be a right leg injury, according to many accounts.
Becton, an offensive lineman by trade, is vying with Tyler Steen to start at right guard after Steen sustained an injury during the Eagles’ 14–13 victory over the New England Patriots on Thursday. Becton, 25, was signed by the Eagles in April as a free agent to a $2.75 million, one-year contract.
Becton was selected by the New York Jets with the eleventh overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. During his rookie season, the Louisville product started 13 of his 14 games. The left tackle’s second season was cut short by a knee injury sustained in Week 1, at which point Becton shifted to right tackle but missed the entire 2022 campaign due to another knee ailment.
In 2023, the 6-foot-7, 363-pound lineman participated in 95 percent of the offensive snaps and started all 16 of his games. The Jets declined to select Becton’s fifth-year option.
