Breaking news: Yankees promote a standout prospect outfielder ahead of Sunday’s game.
The New York Yankees made the unexpected announcement that standout prospect outfielder Jasson Dominguez will be named the 27th man on the active roster ahead of Sunday’s Little League Classic versus the Detroit Tigers.
The Yankees have Jasson Dominguez back.
The fact that Dominguez was selected by the team over a pitcher for the additional roster position is undoubtedly intriguing. Though Alex Verdugo has been struggling for most of the season and recently found out that he has an allergy to a chemical in his batting gloves, which may be impacting his performance, the Yankees could use the extra offensive support at this time.
According to MLB.com, Dominguez, 21, is the top prospect in the Yankees’ farm system and one of the game’s best prospects overall. Before requiring Tommy John surgery for his elbow injury during his big league debut season, he hit four home runs in eight games.
Dominguez is anticipated to play a long-term role with the Yankees.
He probably would have started on Opening Day for New York with Juan Soto and Aaron Judge if it weren’t for the injury. Dominguez had an oblique injury earlier in the season, which kept him out of the minor levels for more than a month after recuperating from Tommy John surgery. However, he has since returned and is hitting.219 with one home run since returning from a rehab stint in late July.
Dominguez has struggled since his comeback, but he is still projected to be a key member of the Yankees going forward, and he might even play a significant role in their October postseason push. Though it’s unknown if he’ll play in Sunday’s game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, it’s encouraging that New York summoned their best prospect just in time for the last stretch.
