Breaking: Carolina Panthers top star signed by General Manager Tom Telesco just prior to the Las Vegas Raiders’ exhibition game against the Dallas Cowboys.
LB Jackson Mitchell was signed by General Manager Tom Telesco just prior to the Las Vegas Raiders’ exhibition game against the Dallas Cowboys tonight.
Even though the Las Vegas Raiders are scheduled to play the Dallas Cowboys at Allegiant Stadium tonight, general manager Tom Telesco is continuing to make roster improvements.
Henderson, Nevada – Jackson Mitchell, LB, was claimed by the Las Vegas Raiders via waivers, the team announced on Saturday.
The Carolina Panthers signed Mitchell as an undrafted free agent out of UConn in May. The Panthers cut him loose on Friday.
Mitchell, a Ridgefield, Connecticut native, led UConn in tackles as a senior. He recorded 113 total stops at an average of 9.4 tackles per game, which ranked him 19th in the FBS. In addition, he ended with one sack, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and seven tackles for loss. He recorded double-digit tackles in five different games. His 438 total tackles over four seasons put him third on UConn’s all-time list at the end of his career.
Mitchell was invited to both the Hula Bowl and the East-East Shrine Bowl last season, and he was named an All-New England player for the third consecutive year.
Earlier in the spring, Telesco talked about the benefits of developing the Silver and Black roster. “Yes, Dylan Laube and Trey Taylor were two of the better ones today. Trey Taylor expressed his gratitude to M.J. [Devonshire] at the conclusion. It’s rather amazing. It’s funny because, when we do it, at least with me, when I’m making the call, my mind is already turning to the next one—you kind of get into this mode where you just kind of keep working and kind of forget that the child on the other end of the phone is changing his life.
He has the opportunity to play professional football, and nothing could be more exciting than receiving a call from the Las Vegas Raiders. He already knows which city he plans to visit. There were a lot of emotions on the phone, especially with these youngsters today, but these guys’ travels to be here have changed their lives. Therefore, it was kind of wonderful to hear that from the boys today. We do this every year as part of our job, and sometimes—I hate to say it—we kind of lose track of that.
