ESPN: Former NFL favorite RB sentenced to life imprisonment for murder charge.

Tuesday saw the life sentence of former NFL running back Cierre Wood for the murder of La’Rayah Davis, the 5-year-old daughter of his girlfriend.

After striking a plea agreement with prosecutors, Wood entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder and criminal child abuse in April.

According to an Associated Press story, Wood was given a life sentence for the murder conviction, with the potential of release after ten years. In addition, he faces a sentence ranging from 28 months to 6 years for the charge of child abuse. The 33-year-old is required to serve the terms in order.

On April 9, 2019, the crime was conducted at Wood’s apartment in Las Vegas. According to the Las Vegas coroner’s office, blunt force injuries were the cause of Davis’s death.

After going undrafted in 2013, the former Notre Dame player signed with the Houston Texans. He also played for a short time with the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.

Wood has run for 12 yards on 5 runs in 7 NFL games. Later on, he joined the Canadian Football League as a player.
