Breaking: Jets’ Pro Bowl Edge-Rusher Close in to Sign a Blockbuster Deal With The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Haason Reddick impasse with Jets grows uglier

By 2024, the New York Jets hope to have improved from a 7–10 squad in 2023 to a Super Bowl contender. That is the impact Aaron Rodgers, when healthy, can have on a club. The goal of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is to improve upon their rather unexpected 2023 success. They took home the NFC South title with a 9-8 overall record.

The New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Might Complete a Huge Trade

Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay outlined the following scenarios in which Jets pass rusher Haason Reddick might end up with the Buccaneers:

Even though Haason Reddick was only signed by the New York Jets in March, his tenure with the club may be coming to an end.

The Pro Bowl edge-rusher made a public trade request on Monday, but Jets general manager Joe Douglas nearly instantly rejected it, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Reddick is not happy with the terms of his deal. Even though his non-guaranteed basic pay for 2024 is only little over $14 million, he feels that he has significantly excelled and wants to see this amount increased.

After failing to budge on the 29-year-old’s demands, the Philadelphia Eagles traded him for a late-Day 2 selection. He hasn’t practiced with his new squad or even shown up to training camp since then, and he has only ever been spotted once at Gang Green’s facilities.

Reddick is losing more money as a result of this unsustainable arrangement than the Jets are. The defender has already lost close to $2 million as a result of not reporting, and there are non-refundable fines of $50,000 per day.

A trade doesn’t seem completely out of the question, even if it seems more likely that Reddick will eventually report even if he doesn’t sign a new contract.

In the event that New York changes its mind about moving the Temple goods, there ought to be a number of potential buyers. The number of teams who would be interested in signing him is limited, thus any team that is willing to pay a market value extension must also be willing to give him to another team.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who currently have a surplus of cap space, could use a player with Reddick’s caliber on the edge. Yaya Diaby and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka are the team’s current starting outside linebacker combinations, but neither player has ever earned more than 7.5 sacks in a single season and both are suffering with ailments.

If the Jets are prepared to give up less than they gave up for Reddick to end this drama, the Bucs might even be able to negotiate a deal for his services.

The Bucs have had no trouble obtaining sacks in previous seasons.

Ever since Todd Bowles became the defensive coordinator in 2019, the Buccaneers have amassed 235 sacks, which ranks them second in the NFL. It’s really impressive to put that number on your coaching résumé.

However, since 2019, the Buccaneers have also blitzed more than any other team, according to Pro Football Reference. Antonio Winfield has taken more sacks (12) in the last three seasons than any other defensive back in the NFL, which highlights this argument.

Adding a pass rusher such as Reddick might have a significant impact on their defensive strategies.
