ESPN: Chiefs headcoach gives injury update on Chiefs top wide reciever.
Wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown of the Kansas City Chiefs did not require surgery to repair the shoulder injury he sustained in the team’s preseason game in Jacksonville, according to head coach Andy Reid.
Brown was not present for Monday’s practice after spending Saturday night in a Jacksonville hospital and being discharged early on Sunday.
Coach Andy Reid of the Chiefs announced on Monday that wide receiver Hollywood Brown, who hurt his shoulder on the first play of the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, won’t require surgery.
Brown’s sternoclavicular shoulder joint dislocated during a tackle following Patrick Mahomes’ 11-yard reception. Before the quarter was up, he left the field and went to the locker room.
After spending the night in a Jacksonville hospital on Saturday, Brown returned to Kansas City on Sunday. “It’s encouraging that they were able to realign the joint without the need for surgery,” Reid stated. After the game, Reid likened the injury to one that wide receiver Tyreek Hill, then with the Chiefs, had sustained on the same field during the 2019 season opener. For the next four games, Hill was out.
Brown’s comeback date was not specified by Reid, who only stated, “I think he’ll miss some time,” following the game. On the play, Brown wasn’t the Chiefs’ first choice. Although Xavier Worthy, a rookie wide receiver, was called for it, Mahomes shielded Worthy as he delivered the ball. “I was upset because I felt like the Jaguars kind of took away my play,” Worthy remarked.
Worthy reported that Brown sounded optimistic during their later-Saturday talk. Worthy said that “he was in pretty good spirits.” “He simply wants to return and get ready for work.” On Monday, a number of players who did not practice or play on Saturday returned to the field for an unpadded exercise.
Security Wide receiver Kadarius Toney, linebacker Nick Bolton, and quarterback Justin Reid were able to participate. Reid hasn’t been able to practice during training camp due to a quad issue.
