ESPN report: Steelers first-choice player suffered a mild MCL strain during preseason game against the Houston Texans.
During the Pittsburgh Steelers’ preseason game against the Houston Texans, rookie offensive tackle Troy Fautanu suffered a mild MCL strain, according to an ESPN report on Saturday. Washington’s Fautanu, the 20th overall choice in the 2024 NFL Draft, was seen with a brace over his left knee following the Steelers’ 20–12 defeat on Friday.
When the team returns to practice on Sunday, coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that the team will have a better idea of how serious the injury is. After starting every game as left tackle for all 15 games, 23-year-old Fautanu was named to the All-Pac-12 Conference First Team in 2023. In addition, as the best offensive lineman in the league, he was awarded the Morris Trophy.
Mike Tomlin Provides a Direct Reaction Regarding Russell Wilson’s Status For The Upcoming Preseason Game
Head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomlin, is a man that reporters adore because he never waffles and rarely leaves anything up to interpretation.
When questioned about quarterback Russell Wilson’s condition for the upcoming preseason game following Friday night’s 20-12 preseason loss to the Houston Texans, head coach Mike Tomlin provided a clear response, as he always does.
When asked if Wilson will be available for the upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills, Tomlin responded simply and honestly, “I do,” according to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.
After witnessing his Steelers commit four fumbles, give up three sacks, throw an interception, miss an extra point, and fail a two-point conversion in the first game, Tomlin was not happy with his team’s performance.
Although starting quarterback Justin Fields completed five of six throws for 67 yards in his debut, Tomlin expressed his worries following the game, claiming that Fields’ two fumbles overshadowed many of his strong traits.
Given how many quarterbacks in the NFL are sitting out the entire preseason, it’s thrilling that Russ will make his debut the next week. Additionally, Wilson could use some practice to get his new teammates on the same page before Week 1 after two disappointing seasons with the Denver Broncos.
Many supporters had hoped that this would become a traditional quarterback competition, but it doesn’t seem like that is the case, especially in light of Tomlin’s dissatisfaction with Fields’ performance in the opening preseason game.
There is a lot for Steelers supporters to be excited about next week.
