There might be a quarterback depth problem for the New York Giants.

In the first preseason game against the Detroit Lions, veteran Drew Lock—starter Daniel Jones’ backup—sustained a strained oblique and a bone contusion.

Head coach of the Giants, Brian Daboll, talked about how the team would try to deal with Lock’s injury in the quarterback room if he misses time.

When asked if Big Blue might choose to add a different quarterback, Daboll replied, “Maybe, if he can’t go.”

The Giants still have Jones and Tommy DeVito as their quarterbacks.

On the free agent market, there are seasoned choices like A.J. McCarron, Trevor Siemian, and Ryan Tannehill.

It appears that this will depend on how serious Lock’s wounds are.

Perhaps the Giants will stick with Jones and DeVito during the preseason if there are no long-term problems.

The other problem is that DeVito would be the only quarterback available to take snaps if Daboll decided not to start Jones in pointless games.

Community Tailgate: Where Will Ryan Tannehill Sign?

This is a genuine dilemma for New York, and if it is not handled properly, it could have significant consequences.

Being in this position is peculiar for a team because this isn’t the normal season. If it were, Jones would lead off and DeVito would provide him with flawless support.

However, starting Jones in the preseason carries a risk because for the starters it is almost worthless.

If the Giants decide they need another quarterback or not, only time will tell.
