Breaking: Former Alabama top man ruled out due to injury.
NFL Preseason Week 1 saw the Atlanta Falcons travel to Miami to play the Dolphins on Friday night to kick off the season. Under the direction of first-year head coach Raheem Morris, the Falcons hope to get better and contend in the NFC South with Kirk Cousins as their starting quarterback.
Football unfortunately involves injuries, and the Atlanta Falcons suffered one early. DeMarcco Hellams, a second-year defender and former Alabama safety, had to leave the field on a medical cart in the first quarter due to a left ankle injury.
Hellams started four of the 15 games he played in as a rookie last season. For the Falcons, he recorded 40 tackles, including one for a loss.
After his first injury, the television show paused for a commercial, and by the time the coverage resumed, Hellams had an air cast on his leg. Before play in Miami resumed, he drove off the field in a golf cart.
The Atlanta Falcons selected Hellams in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
