Despite their recent troubles, the Phillies made the right decision by refusing to risk away their future before the deadline.

A week ago was the MLB trade deadline, when the Phillies of Philadelphia made four moves. The president of baseball operations for the Phillies, Dave Dombrowski, highlighted areas that needed attention but didn’t necessarily make any major decisions.

Dombrowski sent Seranthony Domínguez, Cristian Pache, and Gregory Soto away in exchange for Austin Hays, Carlos Estévez, and Tanner Banks.

At the trade deadline, Dave Dombrowski made the wise decision to safeguard the Phillies’ best prospects.

In the Soto deal, the organization was able to obtain two minor league players. Two new pitchers to the Phillies farm system are Seth Johnson, 25, and Moisés Chace, 21, both right-handers. According to MLB Pipeline, Johnson is now the organization’s No. 10 prospect while Chace is ranked No. 25.

Three prospects were given up by the Phillies as part of the deadline trades. In order to acquire Estévez, Dombrowski traded two pitchers, both 22 years old, to the Los Angeles Angels. According to MLB Pipeline, left-hander Samuel Aldegheri was the Phillies’ No. 12 prospect, and right-hander George Klassen was their No. 7 prospect. In order to acquire Banks, Dombrowski also surrendered infielder William Bergolla, the No. 11 prospect for the Phillies, to the Chicago White Sox.

Dombrowski had one task he didn’t want to finish before the deadline. Give up the future. The Phillies were reportedly intrigued in a few impact players, which would have forced them to give up one or more elite prospects. It would have been necessary to include names like Mick Abel, Starlyn Caba, Justin Crawford, Andrew Painter, and Aidan Miller in a package.

According to Phillies Nation’s Tim Kelly, Dombrowski expressed his protectiveness of the team’s best prospects by saying, “We have some guys that I really didn’t want to trade.” “They’re our elite group of guys, so I’m ecstatic that we took the actions that we did.”

Despite their difficulties since the series before to the All-Star break, the Phillies are still a very talented club. Dombrowski already had a lineup full of big players, so he didn’t need to add one at the trade deadline. While still being able to retain their best prospects within the club, the front office can consider acquiring a significant free agent over the summer.

Dombrowski appears to be quite content with the Phillies’ present farm system and squad. He ought to be content. The stars must rise to the occasion and perform like everyone knows they are capable of. This squad should not be losing as many games as it has over the past seven series.

Fans of the Phillies should be grateful to Dombrowski for safeguarding the team’s future, despite their disappointment.
